Switzerland County YMCA
The logo on the side of the building was also designed by Jeremy Fretts. The flag is intended to evoke some of the riverboat heritage of the area.
Sunshades were omitted from the final project, unfortunately.

Entrance detail at Switzerland County YMCA
Varying the block texture and color gives a plain, boxy building some added spark. Nice lighting at the entrances is a nice upgrade. These nautical fixtures reference the Ohio River across the street.

Headstart classroom, Switzerland County YMCA
One of my favorite features of the project is the corner window in each of the headstart classrooms. The building was carefully sited to preserve and celebrate the existing treeline, and the little kids get the best view of all!

Room with a view, Switzerland County YMCA
The natatorium at the Switzerland County YMCA looks out on the woods. It is also designed for future access to an outdoor pool or splash park.
-
SCY Site Aerial
Because of the spectacular site, I insisted on hiring Claire Bennett Associates, Landscape Architects, for the site design, and worked with them to locate the building and craft an elegant parking solution.

Natatorium, Henry County YMCA
This simple natatorium massing is a product of my efforts on the project. The arched window is a reference to a similar window on the 100-year old facility from which the YMCA was relocating. The arch was my idea. The way it is detailed was NOT my idea, and is a bit of a disappointment.

Henry County YMCA floor plan
In addition to winning the project for AAI, my contributions to this project were primarily in the massing and circulation. Two large, gabled building volumes are connected by a "flat" roofed area which contains all the services and classrooms. The fieldhouse is pre-engineered steel, and the natatorium is glu-laminated timber.
Visibility of the fitness and pool areas are of primary importance to YMCA's in Indiana as a means of promoting membership, and many YMCA's also include public meeting areas which require separate access control from membership areas.

Henry County YMCA, opening day
My contribution to this project was primarily marketing, programming, massing, and circulation. I must say that I am not completely satisfied with the masonry detailing executed by others, but the functionality of the facility is exquisite.

Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville Program Center
Huge fieldhouse with four full basketball courts, adjacent to an existing school building.
Windows in the gymnasium are a result of Jeremy's insistence.

Study model, BGC Program Center
This is the study model for the concrete panels and entrance pavilion. The actual panels, as-built, are less detailed than these, sadly.

3-D Model, BGCN Program Center
The originally intended design & color scheme, prior to changing delivery method to design-build. The finished building is a slightly simpler version of this.

Expansion Study, BGCN Conner Street
